Tom,

This is fine with me.  I do not think this would cause any confusion
with our marketing major.

Best wishes,
Rick

Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s):

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

Rationale for the Name Change:

The name change will make the major more attractive to prospective students. Many similar programs use marketing or marketing and management in the title, For example:

• Our prime competitor in the region at St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, uses Food Marketing for their major.

• California State Polytechnic University, Pomona uses Food Marketing and Agribusiness Management.

Mississippi State has a concentration in Food Marketing in their Agricultural Food and Resource Economics major.

• The University of Illinois uses Agribusiness Markets and Management

We feel the new name better reflects the coursework and emphasis in FABM which emphasizes marketing and sales. In addition, our collegiate NAMA club, National Agri-business Marketing Association, is focused on marketing in agri-business. This change would not involve changing the FABM moniker.

Rational for Requirements Change:

Lowering the total credits required from 128 to 124 is in line with University recommendations for total requirements in a BS program.  FREC 110, a required course in the old requirements is no longer offered. The addition of FREC 212 allows students to take a related course as a sophomore and builds continuity in the major.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
