Currently the Three Languages Major is limited to students
studying languages with majors and worded as follows:
Selection of First
and Second Languages is limited to those
languages in which the
Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures
offers a major.
This wording excludes Japanese and Chinese, which only offer a
minor.
However, we currently offer 400-level courses in both Japanese
and Chinese and we have active exchange programs that enable students to garner
400-level credits and fulfill all the requirements of the second language in
the three languages major. Further, we have had a Japanese minor for over a
decade and a Chinese minor for several years now. 400-level courses in JAPN and
CHIN with different readings each semester enable students to take enough
400-level courses to fulfill the major’s second language requirements. We have
seen a recent surge in students with an interest in

Current description in the undergraduate course catalog
at the top of p.125:

Proposed Revision:
Selection of First Languages is limited to those
languages in which the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers a

selected from languages in which the department of Foreign Languages and
Literatures offers a major or a minor.
