Rationale:

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

The proposed International Business Studies (IBS) Minor is a collaborative effort between the Lerner College of Business & Economics and the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department of the College of Arts and Sciences.  The initiative for the IBS minor came in large part because of the popularity of the recently introduced International Business Studies Major, which is also a collaboration between the Lerner College of Business & Economics and the College of Arts and Sciences, in particular the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.  Over 250 applicants to the University chose the IBS major the first year the major was included on the UD application form.  However, only a limited number of IBS majors can be accepted, so the IBS minor would be an attractive option for students with interests in business and language but who are not accepted into the IBS major.  Additional students in other majors have also expressed interest in business and foreign language.  The proposed IBS minor would allow more students to pursue a curriculum of business combined with language and still take a different major.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)

Catalog Entry (Proposed)

The minor in International Business Studies is designed for students who may be interested in language and business, but who are not majoring in a business area.  The minor is restricted to students not majoring in the Lerner College of Business and Economics; Lerner College students who desire an international business minor must pursue the International Business Minor options described under Business Administration.  The 21 credits required for the minor may also be used to meet other distribution requirements.  Applications for the International Business Studies minor should be completed and submitted online.  Acceptance will be based on academic standing, motivation for proposed study, and availability of seats.  Applications are reviewed each September and February. Students electing the International Business Studies minor are encouraged to incorporate a short-term study abroad program into their courses of study, especially a Foreign Languages and Literatures trip to a country that uses the student’s target language.  The requirements for the minor are:
