List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program
objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
LEAD 110 Perspectives on Leadership. This course
supports the Leadership major’s goal of providing an effective first year in
the major experience for its students; it also supports the programmatic goal
of developing, early on, team skills for problem-solving.
Explain, when appropriate,
how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate
education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/
This course, as explained in the course proposal form,
will involve students in various activities that develop team skills for
problem-solving which addresses goals 2 and 3 (thinking critically and working
collaboratively.)Because the course also delves into the nexus of leadership
and consumer policy, we intend to support goal 6 of engaging our students early
on in intellectually stimulating conversations and explorations. The course
will also require written and oral work, which supports goal 1.
Identify other units affected
by the proposed changes:
(Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)
No other unit is affected by the addition of LEAD 110.
However, another change includes adding CISC 101 and 103 to the list of
accepted computer applications course. This addition was actually instigated by
the CISC department, who suggested these courses as being appropriate for our
students. See the accompanying email.
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
These revisions will provide an effective first year in
the major experience for our students through the addition of Perspectives on
Leadership: topics include exploring the nexus of leadership and consumer
policy, career paths, resources for academic success, and opportunities for
leadership development. It will provide a sound basis for students to make
early decisions about the major, and lay the foundation for future academic
success in later courses.
As earlier indicated, the CISC department has suggested
that CISC 101 and 103 are appropriate courses for our students, and suggested
them as additions to our current list.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of
the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)

Hi, Karen,
CIS has no problem with listing CISC 101 and 103 for LEAD majors. We are
happy to have them. CISC 101 is a computer applications course offered
each term (and in Summer, Winter). CISC 103 is a
course in programming for web applications offered Fall
terms only. It can serve as introduction/preparation to further Computer
and Information Science courses as well.
