List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

None; all courses included in the change currently exist in the Lerner College.

Explain, when appropriate, how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

The changed courses are higher level versions of those currently included in the major. Moving to these more intense versions continues to support the goals of the existing courses except at an enhanced level.

Identify other units affected by the proposed changes:

(Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

None of the courses affect other departments; they are all within the Lerner College.

Describe the rationale for the proposed program change(s):

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

There are two main reasons why this change is being proposed:

1)   The HRIM faculty believes that the higher level accounting, economics, and finance courses will better prepare students for the follow-on junior and senior level HRIM courses.  The changes are also consistent with the requirements found in other top ten HRIM programs around the US.

2)   Now that the HRIM program is part of the Lerner College, upgrading to the higher level courses aligns HRIM more closely with other majors in the College.  It should also make it easier for HRIM students to enroll in these courses.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)

Summary of Changes:

1) Delete option of ECON 100 or ECON 151/152; requirement is ECON 151 and 152

2) Delete option of ACCT 200 or ACCT 207/208; requirement is ACCT 207 only

3) Require FINC 311 instead of FINC 200

The net effect of these changes on the number of credits is to reduce by two (2) the number of elective credits to as many as 24 depending on the student’s choice of courses.
