List program changes for curriculum revisions:

  1. Eliminate HESC354, Seminar in Fitness Management (1) from major requirements
  2. Eliminate HESC263, Leadership Practicum (1) and HESC329, Dynamics of Team Problem Solving (3) from concentration requirements
  3. Replace HESC430, Physiology of Activity, with HESC433, Applied Physiology of Activity (currently proposed) in concentration requirements

List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum:

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

HESC433

Other affected units:

(List other departments affected by this new or revised curriculum.  Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

none

Rationale:

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

Changes 1 & 2 are proposed to streamline the curriculum. Essential content from HESC354, Seminar in Fitness Management will be incorporated into HESC332, Health Behavior Theory and Assessment. Essential content from HESC329, Dynamics of Team Problem Solving, will be incorporated into HESC332 and HESC422, Organization and Administration of Leisure Services. The faculty have decided that HESC263, Leadership Practicum, is not of sufficient value to continue as a requirement, given that all students in the major are required to do a 9-credit internship.

Change 3 replaces Physiology of Activity with a newly developed course designed to provide more applied and practical content knowledge for students in this concentration.
