List program changes for
curriculum revisions:
1. Revise
Breadth Requirements for Exercise Physiology Concentration:
Replace MATH221, Calculus I
with
Math221, Calculus I (3)
Or
Math241, Analytic Geometry
and Calculus A (4)
2. Revise
Concentration, Major requirements:
a. Add HESC451, (title being changed to
Clinical Exercise Physiology) as an option to
HESC432,
Exercise Testing and Prescription
Or
HESC434,
(title being changed to ECG Interpretation)
b. Delete HESC353, (title being changed to
Pre-Professional Seminar) from Concentration Requirements and add to Major
Requirements
List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum:
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter None)
none
Other affected units:
(List other departments affected by this new or revised
curriculum. Attach permission from the
affected units. If no other unit is
affected, enter None)
Letter from Math Department attached
Rationale:
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum
or program.)
2a. Adding an additional course as an
option within the major requirements will provide students with enhanced
ability to select a course that most closely aligns with their career goals. HESC432,
Exercise Testing and Prescription, is a course appropriate for students
interested in personal training and the fitness industry. HESC434, (title being changed to ECG
Interpretation,) is a course appropriate for students interested in cardiac
rehabilitation or medicine. HESC451, (title being changed to Clinical Exercise
Physiology,) is appropriate for students interested in pursuing an advanced
degree in physiology or exercise science.
2b. HESC353, (title being changed to
Pre-Professional Seminar,) is currently required of students in the exercise
physiology concentration within the exercise science major. Although at one time the career goals
of the students in biomechanics and motor control, (the other concentration
within exercise science,) were different from those of the students in exercise
physiology, virtually all students in the major now plan careers in medical or
allied health fields or plan to go on to graduate school in exercise science or
a related field. The written student evaluations of HESC353 are extremely
positive and it has occurred to the faculty that the course would also be
beneficial to the education of the students in the biomechanics and motor
control concentration. Moving the course from being an exercise physiology
concentration requirement to a major requirement, will therefore benefit the
education of the students in the biomechanics and motor control concentration
who have previously not had access to this course.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)
(Change only to Concentration Breadth Requirement)
