MEDT 200 [THE LANGAUAGE OF MEDICINE] is a new course in the approval process.
MEDT 220 [FORENSIC SCIENCE] is a new course in the
approval process.
MEDT 360 [CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY AND MEDICAL
VIROLOGY] is a
new course in the approval process.
While MEDT 200 and MEDT 220 will be included in the
minor, these courses were developed to support the mission of the Department of
Medical Technology. MEDT 360 is the
lecture component of an already existing course (i.e., MEDT 380) which has both
a lecture and laboratory component.

Goal 2: The student will apply critical thinking
processes to the interpretation and evaluation of clinical laboratory data.

Clinical laboratory
testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of
disease. More than 70% of all medical
decisions are made based on clinical laboratory findings. Thus, it is important for individuals
pursuing careers in health related fields to be educated with regard to
interpreting, evaluating, and validating clinical laboratory data. The proposed
minor would add an important dimension to the
Program Requirements:

A minor in Medical Diagnostics may be earned by a student in any University bachelors degree program through successful completion of a minimum of 15 credits as described below. This degree provides students especially those preparing for admission to professional schools in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and to graduate programs in related health fields with the basic knowledge to evaluate and interpret clinical laboratory data. Before beginning these courses, the student must meet the required course prerequisites. Additional courses for satisfying the requirements for the minor may be approved by the Department. A minimum of C- is required in all courses completed for the minor.
