EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE FACULTY SENATE

October 18, 2002

MINUTES

Members Present: Jay Hildebrandt, President, Karen Stein, President Elect, Charles Mason, Vice President, Dallas Hoover, Secretary, Jeffrey Jordan, Parliamentarian, Karren Helsel-Spry, Administrative Assistant

Guests: Maxine Colm, Vice President for Administration, Jan Blits, Chairperson of the Faculty Senate Committee on Faculty Welfare and Privileges

I. Call to Order - President Hildebrandt called the meeting to order at approximately 9:40.

II. AAUP Contract Issue – President Hildebrandt called on Dr. Blits to begin presenting the report of the Faculty Welfare and Privileges Cte. He discussed four points of discrepancies outlined in the report.

President Hildebrandt then called on Dr. Colm to speak. Dr. Colm addressed the issues and answered several questions by Dr. Blits as well as the Executive Committee. Following this question and answer session, Dr. Colm and Dr. Blits were excused, and the Executive Committee resumed discussion for approximately 30 min.

There was discussion concerning the issues outlined in the report, as well as the issues of whether or not this was actually senate business. The committee discussed several different approaches that they might wish to take.

It was decided that they would begin by having President Hildebrandt draft a memo to the Faculty Welfare and Privileges Committee addressing the four points of the report presented by Dr. Blits. He will then distribute the draft to the Executive Committee for further input.

III. Adjournment – The meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon.
