III.       Remarks: Provost Dan Rich.  Dr. Rich reported that 357 students received honors awards Sunday. The Strategic Planning Committee is continuing to meet with contingency groups in preparation of a report to President Harker. Dr. Rich announced that President Harker ended the training program used by residence life to build community in the dormitories.  A review of the program was underway before the recent comments about the program surfaced.  The committee is co-chaired by Havidán Rodriquez and Michael Gilbert. The committee plans to have a report to the Faculty Senate in the spring. It is important to have a program to build a community among students residing in the residence halls, and a new program curriculum will be developed.  The program will likely be reviewed by the Faculty Senate Student Life and Undergraduate Studies Committees and then brought to the floor of the Faculty Senate for approval.

Dr. Rich also announced that the
Creating Knowledge-Based Partnerships: Challenges and Opportunities conference was held Friday at Clayton Hall.  A series of conferences are planned; the next conference is scheduled for March 25, 2008, and another conference is planned for the fall of 2008. As a result of discussions held at the conference, an Office of Economic Development and Partnership and an Institute of Business and Economic Research are planned.  It was also reported that President Harker is in New York City this evening meeting with alumni.

Dr. Rich announced that Mark Miller, winner of the Francis Alison Faculty Award for 2007, will give a lecture Monday at 11:30 am in room 127 Memorial Hall.
