Graduate Studies Senate Committee Minutes

Members present:  Charles Mason, Chair; Darwin Davis, Matthew Kinservik, Mary Martin, Peter Kolchin (excused), Susan Brynteson, Richard Fang, James Flynn, Andrew Teplyakov, Jeffry Fuhrmann, Adam Marsh (excused), Robert Opila, Graduate Students Rachel Schiavone and substitute for Alan Stottlemyer.

 

 

Old Business:

            A)  Request to change name of PhD major in Climatology to Geography:

Unanimously approved by the Committee

            B)  Request to create concentrations in Geography PHD program:

Unanimously approved by Committee to add Climatology concentration and Land Surface concentration to the Ph.D. program in Geography

            C)  Revision to the concentration in Performance in the Master of Music program:

Unanimously approved by Committee

            D)  Addition of concentration in Master of Instruction:  Committee unanimously approved the addition of a new concentration in the M.I. program called Agricultural Education

            E)  Revision in the Master of Instruction program changing the number of credits for the degree from 31 to 33: One new core course that is required of all students: EDUC 669, Master’s Portfolio: Evaluating Effectiveness (2 credits) This course assists program candidates in evaluating their effectiveness and in constructing the portfolio, which is the capstone requirement for this degree program. 

            F)  Proposals from Biological Sciences to add concentrations:  The Committee tabled the vote until the next meeting as further clarification was needed in the proposal.

 

 

New Business:   Chair Chuck Mason explained the upcoming procedures for Course Challenges.
