Minutes of October 22, 2007:  Corrected names in attendance.

Old Business:   A) The Marine and Earth Sciences Graduate Policy Statement was approved but sent back to the College for the Senate Checklist Sheet.  The Committee suggested a final review of the Policy Statement to be done by Chuck Mason and Mary Martin. As requested, the Department of Geological Sciences policy was submitted along with the College materials so this committee could compare it with the college policy.  The changes appear to be substantive enough to warrant submission of a Senate Checklist Sheet and approval by this committee.  Chuck Mason will confer with the college regarding this and report back to the committee.

                        B)  The Committee continued discussion on the IS&TM Program Policy Statement.  Clarification was requested on the structure of the admission committee, the structure for student advisement, relationship with ECE, and number of required credits.

Mary Martin was asked to coordinate the revisions to the document.   The policy will be reviewed at the next meeting.

New Business:  A) The Committee approved the degree requirement change in the MSN program in Nursing, concentration in the Clinical Nurse Specialist.  NURS 622 (Advanced Pharmacology) was approved to be a core course requirement in all of the clinical nurse specialist areas as it is now required for national certification.

                          B)  The Committee approved the changes in the Nursing Policy Statement with regard to the requirement for Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist students to carry their own professional liability insurance.  Per the University,

Gary Stokes, UD Risk Management, reported to the unit that graduate students are covered by the University for liability issues and do not need their own liability insurance.

Announcements:  The Chair announced that several Committee members attended the Open-Hearing sponsored by the Coordinating Senate Committee on the proposed new M.S. in Bioresources Engineering held on October 29th at 3 pm in Gore Hall.  The Chair will report the decision of the Coordinating Committee with regard to the proposal of the new program at a future meeting.

Next meeting:  November 19 at 8:15 in 105 Hullihen Hall
