Graduate Studies Senate Committee Minutes

October 8, 2007

Members present:  Charles Mason, Chair;  Darwin Davis, Matthew Kinservik, Mary Martin, Peter Kolchin, Susan Brynteson (Excused), Richard Fang, Cynthia Paris, Andrew Teplyakov (Excused), Jeffrey Fuhrmann, Adam Marsh,  Robert Opila and Andrew Bozanic (Graduate Student).

 

Minutes of September 24th were approved.

 

Old Business:   

A)  Tabled discussion on the Marine and Earth Studies Graduate Policy Document as the document was not complete.

 

B)  Matthew Kinservik engaged the Committee on the report of the Strategic Planning meeting held with the Graduate Study Committee members, the graduate program coordinators and the Department Chairs on October 1st.  The report of that meeting will be filed directly with the Strategic Planning Committee.

 

New Business:

A) Discussion on the request for permanent status of the M.S. in Information systems and Technology Management Program.  The Committee requested additional information on the number of students admitted to the program.  Mary Martin will provide the information to the Committee prior to the next meeting.  Chuck Mason pointed out that a problem with the total credits existed in the document with regard to the combined MS/MBA program and that the unit will resolve this issue.   Chuck Mason will follow up with the unit to request the Program Policy Statement as it was not provided with the report.  The vote on the recommendation for permanent status was tabled until the next meeting.
