Members present:  Charles Mason, Chair; Peter Kolchin, Matthew Kinservik, Robert Opila, Andrew Teplykov, Susan Brynteson, Linda Bucher, John Sawyer, Paula Vasquez (Graduate Student), Ali Poorani; Pablo Huq, and Mary Martin

 

Special Guest:  Dallas Hoover, Chair of the Coordinating Committee

 

Old Business:  Dean Betty Paulanka was invited by the Committee to present information about the administrative structure of the Health Promotion MS program and to answer questions that Committee members posed with regard to its academic merits.   Dean Paulanka informed the Committee of the program's origin and design as an interdisciplinary program.  She provided the Committee with the history of the program's development and the administrative issues that it faces.

 

Following the visit by Dean Paulanka, the Committee commenced with an open discussion on the options and response to the program’s request for the MS in Health Promotion to be recommended for permanent status.  The following vote was taken:  The motion was: To approve permanent status of the Health Promotion Program.

The vote tally was 0 in favor; 8 opposed; 4 abstaining votes.  The second vote brought forward was:  To recommend a one-year extension of the Health Promotion Program in provisional status.  The vote tally was 7 yes; 4 no; and 1 abstaining vote.

 

The Committee accepted the Chair's plan to write a formal recommendation to the Coordinating Committee.  It was agreed that Committee members would use email to review the report and approve it by email.

 

The next meeting will be held on Friday, April 7th, at 8:30am in 105 Hullihen.
