A. Revision was made to the Multicultural recertification process.  In
particular, the five criteria were revised to read:

   1. The course content provides significant opportunity for students
to gain a greater understanding of the cultural, ethnic or diversity
of the people of the United States.  (No revision).

   2. The course content provides significant opportunity for students to
gain a greater understanding of world religions or cultures. (AND
      replaced with OR).

   3. The course content provides significant opportunity for students
to gain a greater understanding of the behavior of individuals from
other cultures.  (everything following CULTURES deleted.).

   4. The course content provides significant opportunity for students
to deepen their understanding of their own ethnic, or cultural
background, beliefs, and values. (AND replaced with OR).

   5. The course content provides significant opportunity for students to
use their understanding of ethnic, cultural, gender-related, or
religious differences to inform their own behavior and decisions to
a significantly greater degree. (No revision).

B. The deadline for M/C recertification has been modified.  There are now
two deadlines.  Every department with m/c approved courses will be asked
to submit half of those courses by 7 Jan '05 for recertification, and the
other half by 15 Sept '05.  The UGS Committee asks that the higher
enrolling courses be submitted in the first batch.

C. The need to have assessment criteria that can be measured was
discussed.  In particular, criterion 5 will require revision (in the
future) to allow use as an assessment criterion.

D. Some review pairs were arranged. "Veteran" committee members are to be
teamed with "new" committee members.  The review pairs formed so far are:

Lesa Griffiths & Amy Johnson.
David Marshall & Chuck Mason.

E. The logistics of reviewing proposals were discussed.

F. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday 11/19 at 4pm (more committee
members could make the 4pm time than the 8:30 time).

G. The Dec 3rd meeting is cancelled.
