Faculty Welfare and Privileges Committee Annual Report, April,
2008
When, in the fall, the Provost tried to terminate for cause a tenure-track
faculty member without affording her the procedures stipulated in the
Faculty Handbook (Section IV), the faculty member appealed to the
Committee chair, who intervened in her behalf. As a result, the Provost
finally withdrew his letter of termination and the faculty member was
allowed to resign.
The Committee submitted to the Senate Executive Committee a proposal,
approved by the Rules Committee, which would prohibit administrators
(defined as faculty members excluded from the collective bargaining unit)
from serving either on the Senate Executive Committee or as Senate
committee chairs. Executive Committee action is pending.
The Committee Chair is currently working with the Administration to
resolve a serious faculty complaint.
