Program Proposal: MD-MBA Dual Degree
Partnership between
The Lerner College of Business and Economics, University of Delaware (UD MBA)
And
The Thomas Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University (JMC-TJU)
I. Background: There
is an exponential growth in the MD-MBA programs in the USA
during the last decade. In large part it is due recognition of an urgent need
to have physicians leaders to serve as hospital administrators who would have
credibility (of medical community) and managerial skill set to understand
health care delivery systems as well as run the hospitals. Today, there are over 50 MD/MBA programs in
the country (nearly half of the medical schools in the USA)
and many are operated by a partnership between two different Universities. We
think there is scope to attract students from the Jefferson
Medical College,
Thomas Jefferson
University via innovative
curriculum that combines live and online classes at the University
of Delaware. The dual degree MD-MBA program will be particularly attractive to the students
who are accepted at JMC-TJU via the DIMER program (Delaware Institute of
Medical Education and Research).
