List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program
objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
New courses proposed for the
Landscape Design Concentration are;
PLSC 103 Landscape and Field Sketching 3 cr.
PLSC 202 History of Landscape Design 3 cr.
PLSC 301 CAD for landscape Designers 3 cr.
PLSC 333 Estimating and Bidding 1 cr.
PLSC 408 Advanced Landscape
Design 4 cr.
PLSC 203 Portfolio Review 1 cr.
We have added a full time faculty member
in the landscape design area with an 85% teaching assignment. Because we have
proven strength in landscape design, we will teach these courses within the
Landscape Horticulture Major even if the revised curriculum is not approved.
The courses will give the students a solid background in landscape design
allowing them to be competitive in the landscape design field.
New courses proposed for the
Public Horticulture Concentration are;
PLSC 433/633
PLSC 253 Triad Internship 3 cr.
PLSC 453 Public Horticulture Practicum 3 cr.
The Director of the Longwood Program in
Public Horticulture will teach and coordinate the above courses. These courses
provide students with an overall background in public horticulture (433/633)
and provide them with real world experiences in public horticulture (253,453).
No new courses are proposed
for the Landscape Horticulture concentration.
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
Explain, when appropriate,
how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate
education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/
The major will address Goal
7, providing students with mandated real life experiences in all
concentrations, requiring them to integrate their classroom knowledge into real
work situations. The Landscape Design concentration will address Goal 8, and
expand students’ aesthetic and intellectual expression. In all concentrations,
we strive to develop intellectual curiosity, make the student more confident
and provide a foundation for a lifelong career.
Identify other units affected
by the proposed changes:
(Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)
All other units have been contacted regarding their teaching
our students in the courses required in the revised major. A hard copy of their
responses will be forwarded to the Senate Office with the signed hard copy of
this form.
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
The core major
requirements give all students in the major a background in the basic plant
sciences, soil science and plant materials. The concentrations allow
specialization in one of three areas; landscape horticulture, landscape design
and public horticulture. With a specialization, students will be able to be
very competitive in the job market. Each major must select one of the three
concentrations.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of
the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
