Describe
the rationale for the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)
Given that the MFA in Art is widely accepted as the terminal degree in the field, the Department of Art commits to focusing its resources solely on this graduate program. The MA ties up already limited studio space, teaching commitments, and other resources that should be directed toward MFA students. Over the last nine years, the department has accepted and graduated nine MA students, all exclusively in ceramics and many of whom were new BFAs from the department. Many of these students used the program as preparation for entering MFA programs. The MA does not strengthen our graduate program and its national profile.
Program
Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog. If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
No new text; eliminate old text only. See attached.
