Recommendation from the Faculty Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies (Beth Morling, Chair) with the concurrence of the Coordinating Committee on Education (John Madsen, Chair) and the Executive Committee (Cihan Cobanoglu, Chair) for the request to move the Sport Management Major from the College of Health Sciences and the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences to the Lerner College of Business and Economics and the Department of Business Administration:

 

WHEREAS,     the Sport Management concentration in the Health Behavior Science                             Major was initiated in 2001 within the College of Health Sciences and                           the Department of Health and Exercise Sciences,

 

WHEREAS,     the Sport Management major was initiated in 2004 within the College                            of Health Sciences, and the Department of Health, Nutrition and                                        Exercise Sciences,

 

WHEREAS,     the Sport Management program now numbers 3 core faculty,

 

WHEREAS,     the Sport Management major offers a Bachelors of Science degree,

 

WHEREAS,     most of the University's peer institutions that offer a B.S. in Sport Management house the program in the Business Department and or College, 

 

WHEREAS,     the number of majors in Sport Management has grown steadily since its inception as a concentration in 2001 and as a major 2004,

 

WHEREAS,     the Sport Management program has embraced the University’s 10 Goals for Undergraduate education, 

 

WHEREAS,     the move of a Sport Management Major will require no new resources,

 

WHEREAS,     the proposed moved has been supported by the faculty and chairs of both departments and the Deans of both Colleges, be it therefore,

 

 

RESOLVED,   that the existing Sport Management major, a major within the College of Health Sciences and the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, move to the Department of Business Administration in the Lerner College of Business and Economics.
