List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program
objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course
Challenge
list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
No new courses will be required.
Supply support letter from
the Library, Dean, and/or Department Chair if needed
(all new majors/minors will need a support letter from
the appropriate administrator.)
Supply a resolution for all
new majors/programs; name changes of colleges, departments, degrees; transfer
of departments from one college to another; creation of new departments;
requests for permanent status. See
example of resolutions.
Explain, when appropriate, how
this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/
The changes will support Goal 5: Understand the diverse ways
of thinking that underlie the search for knowledge in the arts, humanities,
sciences and social sciences. HDFS 401 Foundations of Human Sexuality includes
discussion and assignments regarding understanding sexual and gender diversity.
Identify other units affected
by the proposed changes:
(Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)
No other units will be affected by the change.
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
The current concentration will be renamed: Family and Consumer
Sciences Education with an Early Childhood Education Concentration. The only
change to the concentration will be to remove UAPP 225 Introduction to Public
Policy and add HDFS 401 Foundations of Human Sexuality. Human Services majors
are required to take another course that focuses on public policy: HDFS 402
Child and Family Policy. FCS Education teachers are sometimes required to teach
about human sexuality and sexual development. Therefore, HDFS 401 is deemed to
be more important than UAPP 225 for these students.
Note: There are two errors in the current catalog requirements
for the concentration:
