List
new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the
overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is
dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge
list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
The only new course is actually a revision of two previous courses in the program. EDUC 698, Instructional Strategies for Adults and EDUC 670, Program Design for Adults have been combined into one course with a revised content and the new course, EDUC 670, Program Design & Instructional Strategies for Adults is required in the program. This course has been submitted to the Course Challenge process. This course is a key foundational theory course for the concentration.
Explain,
when appropriate, how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of
undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

No other units are affected by the proposed changes..
Describe
the rationale for the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating,
revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)
The
1. Currently, there are two separate specializations
within this major: a) School
Administration (SA); and b) Adult and Post-Secondary Education Administration
(APSE). We are requesting that these two
specializations be raised to the level of concentrations and keep the
same titles. The advantage of this
change is that the concentrations would then be identified on the graduates’
transcripts, and the candidates who are seeking certification as a school
principal would clearly have the School Administration concentration identified
when they apply for certification in
2. We are revising the program coursework within
both concentrations:
a) Within the School Administration
concentration, the requested change will align the coursework with the
b) The Adult/Post-Secondary concentration does not lead to any type of certification, and many of the students in this concentration are interested in positions in higher education, sports management, and/or adult education. The requested change for this concentration would include the deletion of the same core course mentioned in the previous paragraph (EDUC 863) , the retention of the internship as a 3-credit course (EDUC 879), and the addition of one 3-credit elective chosen with the approval of the student’s faculty advisor.
3.
We are requesting a change in the application deadlines for this
major. Currently, this major uses the
University default deadlines of December 1 for spring admission and July 1 for
fall admission. We are requesting the
application deadlines be changed to April 1 for fall admission and November 1
for spring admission. All other
admission requirements remain the same.
This major does not require applicants to take the GRE test.

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in
Educational Leadership is a thirty-three credit hour, non-thesis program
consisting of 18 credits of required core courses, 12 credits in one of two specializations,
and 3 credits in an educational leadership internship. This is generally a part-time academic
program designed for students who are employed full-time in professional
education positions. In accordance with the general mission of the School of
Education represented in its conceptual framework, this program facilitates
students' development as reflective practitioners who bring a variety of
decision making skills to the enterprise of solving problems, as scholars who are
able to study their own practice as well as the practice of others in their
field, and as leaders who are able to accommodate diversity among people with
whom they work.
The curriculum draws upon students' work
experience to integrate theory and practice as it prepares them for positions
of leadership in educational settings. Those settings include elementary,
secondary, postsecondary, public, private, and vocational schools as well as
adult and continuing education programs. There are two program specializations:
