List
new courses required for the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the
overall program objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is
dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge
list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
EDUC 879, Internship in Education already exits as a variable credit course, and students in the Administration and Policy concentration currently register for it as a 3 credit course. If the proposed change is approved, students will register for the course as a 6 credit course, and have 3 fewer credits of elective credits.
Explain,
when appropriate, how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of
undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/

Describe
the rationale for the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating,
revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)
.
The
Administration & Policy (A & P) concentration within the Ed.D. in
Educational Leadership is a part-time practitioner-oriented doctoral program
for practicing educational professionals in leadership roles in administration,
curriculum, and teaching. For accreditation, the curriculum
of the Ed.D. program must be aligned with
national Education Leadership program standards (ELCC). These standards have been endorsed and
adopted by NCATE (the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education).
The Ed.D. program’s A & P
concentration confers Delaware School Leader II administrative
certification. This concentration
currently requires a 3 credit Internship (EDUC 879). This needs to be changed to 6 credits to
adequately cover the hours and tasks now required by NCATE and by the State of
Delaware Department of Education. The only impact is to reduce the number of
electives needed by 3 credits. This
change does not apply to students in the other concentration of this major
(CTHE - Curriculum, Technology and Higher Education) and there is no impact on
policies, courses, or faculty of the CTHE concentration.)

(Show the new or revised curriculum
as it should appear in the Course Catalog.
If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the
current curriculum and include a
side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed
change.)
