None.
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
The Southern Delaware Bachelor of Science in Education
- Elementary Teacher Education Program at the UD/Milford Professional
Development School (PDS) began in 2000. The goal of this program was to allow
students in southern Delaware to obtain a UD degree in the community where they
lived and planned to begin their teaching career. The plan was to admit a
cohort of 15 students each year. Unfortunately, this goal has rarely been met.
Given that our numbers have been small and highly variable from year to year,
it has been determined that the UD/Milford PDS is not sustainable. For that
reason, we will be closing the PDS in spring 2013 and disestablishing the Southern
Delaware Bachelor of Science in Education - Elementary Teacher Education
Program.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of
the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
Below is the Course Catalog
description of the Southern Delaware program to be deleted.
Southern Delaware Bachelor of
Science in Education - Elementary Teacher Education Program
University and major requirements are the same as for
the Elementary Teacher Education program except the students must pursue the
Special Education Concentration. In addition, students must complete 15 credits
in an integrated discipline area rather than a single discipline area for the
concentration. This program also includes more K-6 school-based requirements
that are designed in cooperation with the Milford School District. All
requirements for this program may be met at the University of Delaware campus
in Georgetown and the Milford Professional Development School located on the
grounds of the Milford School District.
