Major in Hospitality Industry Studies
Catalog Description
The Hospitality Industry Studies curriculum leads to a
Bachelor of Science Degree (including an Honors Degree option) and is based in
liberal arts, business and domain specific courses pertinent to hospitality
industry. Students are provided a strong foundation in analytical domains of
business management for effective application in the hospitality industry. The
curriculum is structured to provide an analytically focused education with a
strong emphasis on domain knowledge specific to the hospitality industry. With
active guidance, students can choose electives based on their area of focus
such as Transaction Advisory Services, Hospitality Marketing,
and Revenue Management and more so as to develop a specialized profile for
employment purposes. An additional component of the major is 700 hours
of hospitality-related work experience and 100 hours of community service that
is required prior to graduation. These combined experiences assist in the
preparation of students for the increasingly complex and challenging
hospitality industry.
Students in the Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management program also
have the opportunity to participate in a 4+1+1 MBA program. With careful
planning, academically eligible students can complete both their undergraduate
degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management and the Master of
Business Administration degree in five years of academic study plus a 12 month
internship.
