Resolution for the Faculty Senate Agenda for Approval of
PROPOSED MA IN HI
WHEREAS, the proposed professional Master’s of Arts in Historic Preservation (MAHP) is an interdisciplinary graduate course of study devoted to understanding the evolution and historic significance of architecture and landscapes, the process of crafting innovative preservation policies and techniques for preserving and maintaining the historic built environment as a vital part of contemporary society.
WHEREAS, there has been much interest over several years from individuals wit diverse backgrounds and interest in pursuing advanced graduate studies in historic preservation relevant to preserving the built environment and contributing to community vitality,
WHEREAS, the foundation for the program has been established in the experience of the Center of Historic Architecture and Design in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy in delivering a graduate concentration in historic preservation in drawing on other departments and programs at the University of Delaware, and
WHEREAS, the proposed program contributes to four milestones on the University’s Path to Prominence: to become premier research and graduate university; to achieve excellence in professional education; to extend impact through Global Initiative, and the engaged university, be it therefore,
RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate recommends approval provisionally, for five years, the establishment of a new Master’s of Arts in Historic Preservation.
