List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program
objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
Explain, when appropriate,
how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate
education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/
Identify other units affected
by the proposed changes:
(Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)
None
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
In the 2010-2011 academic year, we proposed and the senate
approved a new minor in ECE (see attached Senate Form). The gist of the minor is “The minor in
Electrical & Computer Engineering requires the completion of either (a) at
least 15 credits in ELEG and/or CPEG courses, or (b) the completion of at least
12 credits in ELEG and/or CPEG courses and the completion of MATH 242 or CISC
181 or PHYS 208.”
We did not realize many transfer students get miscellaneous
transfer credit for courses that do not directly transfer to UD. We did not intend these courses to count
towards the minor. The current wording
is somewhat ambiguous whether or not these courses count towards the
minor. The revised wording below is
meant to explicitly exclude these courses.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of
the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
BEGINNING OF CATALOG DESCRIPTION
MINOR IN ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING
The minor in Electrical & Computer Engineering requires
the completion of either (a) at least 15 credits in ELEG and/or CPEG courses,
or (b) the completion of at least 12 credits in ELEG and/or CPEG courses and
the completion of
The minor is not available to students majoring in Electrical
Engineering (ELEG) or Computer Engineering (CPEG).
Students pursuing the minor can get advice from the ECE office
or from the Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies in the ECE department.
Accomplishment of a minor in Electrical & Computer
Engineering has many advantages but it must be understood that meeting the
requirements for a minor in Electrical & Computer Engineering without
fulfilling the remaining requirements for an accredited engineering degree does
not provide the breadth and depth of knowledge required of an electrical or a
computer engineer.
