WHEREAS, the proposed 4+1 BS or BE /MMSE program offers an alternate route for qualified students to pursue a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and


WHEREAS, a number of schools have begun to offer similar five year accelerated Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Engineering, and


WHEREAS, the existing graduate programs in Materials Science and Engineering already provide all the courses and administrative framework for such a degree, and


WHEREAS, the proposed program contributes to two milestones on the University's "path to prominence": to become a premier research and graduate university; to achieve excellence in professional education; be it therefore


RESOLVED, that the Faculty Senate recommends approval of the establishment of a new 4+1 BS or BE /MMSE program in Materials Science and Engineering leading to the concurrent awarding of the BS or BE /MMSE after the equivalent of 5 years full-time study
