Delaware lacks a degree program in Occupational Therapy, and College of Health Sciences students seeking access to this degree are increasing in number annually.  This past year, approximately 5-6 students sought access to a graduate degree program in OT.  By articulating the UD Health Studies curriculum with the Thomas Jefferson University MS in Occupational Therapy, we provide a direct path for these students into a quality OT program and save them a semester of coursework/tuition in the process.  The component of the program supported by Delaware will consist of the first three years (91/92 credits) of the Bachelor of Science in Health Studies.  Students will spend the remaining two and a half years at Thomas Jefferson University, where they will complete their remaining undergraduate credits and graduate coursework leading to the Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. The 91/92 credits at UD will meet the University/College’s FYE, DLE, multicultural, writing, and breadth requirements. The undergraduate courses taken at TJU during the fourth year will replace the courses students would normally take during their senior year in the Health Studies program.  Furthermore, the curriculum was designed so that students who opted not to continue into the OT component of the degree could still complete the Health Studies requirements in four years.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)

The following ATTACHMENTS explain the details of the combined degree program:

1)      The University of Delaware/Thomas Jefferson University Articulation Agreement

This is the agreement for implementation of the degree program made between the University of Delaware Provost and the Dean of the Jefferson College of Health Professions.

2)      Matching TJU and UD courses required for entrance into the graduate program in OT.

These are the undergraduate courses required by TJU as prerequisites to entering graduate study in Occupational Therapy, and the corresponding list of courses that UD will offer to meet these requirements.  The UD courses have already been approved by TJU as meeting their prerequisite requirements.

3)      The current Health Studies catalog page.

This form contains the curriculum requirements for students planning to receive a degree in Health Studies.

4)      The proposed Health Studies catalog page for students planning on participating in the combined UD-TJU BS/MS degree program.

This form contains the proposed catalog page for those students in the Health Studies program who have also been accepted into the 5 ˝ year program.  The page contains only those requirements that will be met at the University of Delaware.

5)      A ‘worksheet’ catalog page showing the changes made to the current Health Studies catalog page.

For clarity purposes, this form shows the revisions that were made to the original Health Studies catalog page to create the HS/OT catalog page.

6)      A semester-by-semester program of study for the HS-OT degree program.

This is the planned curriculum for the entire 5 ˝ year program of study.

7)      A side-by-side comparison of the first four years in the standard Health Studies curriculum and the joint Health Studies/Occupational Therapy curriculum.

This compares the four years of the Health Studies course sequence to the first four years of the proposed Health Studies/Occupational Therapy degree program.
