List program changes for curriculum revisions:

Increase HESC420 Functional Human Anatomy from 4 to 5 credit hours

Add HESC488 Upper Extremity and Spine Evaluation Laboratory (1 cr. Hr)

Add HESC489 Lower Extremity and Spine Evaluation Laboratory (1 cr. Hr)

Add HLTH241 Ethical Aspects of Health Care (3 cr. Hr.)

Delete PHIL444 Medical Ethics (3 cr. Hr.)

List new courses required for the new or revised curriculum:

(Be aware that approval of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)

HESC488 Upper Extremity and Spine Evaluation Laboratory (1 cr. Hr)

HESC489 Lower Extremity and Spine Evaluation Laboratory (1 cr. Hr)

HLTH241 Ethical Aspects of Health Care (3 cr. Hr.)

Other affected units:

(List other departments affected by this new or revised curriculum.  Attach permission from the affected units.  If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)

None

Rationale:

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)

HESC488 and HESC489 laboratory courses have been added to both HESC480 and HESC481 respectively to supplement lecture material with a sufficient hands-on laboratory experience.  Both will serve as co-requisite classes.  In order to ensure that our students are afforded education in medical ethics, HLTH241 is being added to the major requirements but will not satisfy a university breadth requirement.  HESC420 is being changed from 4 to 5 credit hours to more accurately reflect the time required in the laboratory for cadaveric dissections.  The change to HESC420 and the addition of HESC488, HESC489 and HLTH241 will increase the “major” credit hours to 97.    The total number of hours to graduate will increase by 6 credits to 126, but we will still satisfy the minimum university requirement of 120.

Program Requirements:

(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the Course Catalog.  If this is a revision, be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)
