Articulation Agreement
Bachelor of Science in Health
Studies and Master’s in Occupational Therapy
Between University
of Delaware and Jefferson College of Health Professions of Thomas Jefferson University
Program Description – Occupational Therapy
This program is a cooperative agreement between University
of Delaware and Jefferson College
of Health Professions of Thomas Jefferson University
(TJU). Students can earn both the
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and the Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in five and
a half years after graduation from high school.
Students will spend the first three years at University
of Delaware and then proceed to
Jefferson College of Health Professions for the final two and a half years of
graduate Occupational Therapy coursework.
The B.S. in Health Studies from University
of Delaware will be awarded after
successful completion of the first year at Jefferson College of Health
Professions. The M.S. in Occupational
Therapy degree from Thomas Jefferson
University will be awarded after
successful completion of the final year at Jefferson College of Health
Professions.
Admission Requirements
There are two paths for admission: students who enter the
program as freshmen, and current UD students in other majors who enter the
program at the end of their freshman year.
Admission for High school students applying to UD as freshmen:
- Pursue
a rigorous college preparatory high school curriculum. The strongest candidates will have
mathematics at least through pre-calculus and at least three years of
laboratory science in high school.
- Earn
excellent grades. The Committee will consider the rigor of your course
selection and the trend in your grades.
It will enhance your application if you have pursued some honors, accelerated,
Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate coursework in high
school.
- Apply
for freshman admission by December 1 of your senior year and designate the
BS/MS Occupational Therapy option as your choice of major.
- Like
all freshman applicants to the University, be sure that we receive your
official high school transcript(s), officially reported SAT reasoning test
scores, letters of recommendation, admissions essay, and the application
fee. We recommend that your essay
or personal statement discuss your interest in occupational therapy.
- The
most outstanding candidates will be invited to come to campus for a
personal interview in late January or early February.
Current University of Delaware
students in other majors:
- Total
earned credits hours (not including AP credits) of 30 or less by the end
of the first year at UD (those with more than 30 credits may be evaluated
on an individual basis)
- Cumulative
grade point average of 3.3 or higher
- A
grade of ‘C’ or better in all prerequisite courses for the programs at TJU
- Submit
a Jefferson College of Health Professions application for admission with
an endorsement/letter of recommendation from a designated University
of Delaware representative.
Admission Decisions
- Admissions
decisions are made by the University of Delaware-Jefferson Joint
Admissions Committee. A maximum of
five candidates will be selected for admission per year in the following
manner:
- Review
candidates who meet listed criteria
- Select
top candidates
- Interview
top candidates
- Select
students
Articulated
Curriculum
- Students
in this program will follow a specific 3-year curricular track at University
of Delaware that will include
the prerequisite coursework needed to transfer into the Entry-level
Master’s in Occupational Therapy (EMOT) program at Jefferson.
- Credits
earned during the first year at Jefferson will be
counted toward the completion of University
of Delaware B.S. degree in
Health Studies.
- Students
who have completed the articulated University of Delaware curriculum, have
a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0, and have earned at
least a ‘C’ in all prerequisite coursework, will transfer into the EMOT
portion of the program at Thomas Jefferson University.
Maintenance
- University
of Delaware shall designate a
person who will serve as coordinator of the program and as advisor of
students who plan to transfer to the Jefferson College of Health
Professions EMOT programs. The
coordinator will:
- Be
the responsible party for providing the University
of Delaware institutional
recommendation for current students;
- Maintain
files for those University of Delaware
students who intend to transfer to the EMOT program at Jefferson College
of Health Professions;
- Both University
of Delaware and Jefferson
College of Health Professions will assure that appropriate personnel in
their respective colleges are made aware of the existence of this
Agreement and are encouraged to support it. Such persons at University
of Delaware and Jefferson
College of Health Professions will include: admissions staff, career
planning and placement officers, transfer coordinators, and faculty.

Personnel from Jefferson College of Health
Professions will visit University of Delaware
on a regular basis to meet with the coordinator and other appropriate faculty
and administrators. Meetings with
students will also be arranged, including potential candidates who intend to
transfer to the Jefferson College of Health Professions EMOT program as well as
other students who may simply wish to seek general information.
- The
faculty, staff, and administration of University
of Delaware are encouraged to
visit the campus of Thomas Jefferson
University.
Evaluation
To serve as a basis for evaluating the program, Jefferson
College of Health Professions will provide aggregate statistical information
regarding application, applicant credentials, and admissions decisions. This information will be shared with University of Delaware.
Marketing and
Recruitment
Upon administrative and curricular approval, the
University of Delaware/Jefferson College of Health Professions BS/EMOT programs
will be listed in University
of Delaware’s
"Undergraduate Degree Programs Bulletin," both in paper and
electronic formats. Jefferson College of Health Professions will supply University
of Delaware
with promotional literature to be used in recruiting students into the BS/EMOT
Programs. Promotional literature created by Jefferson College of Health
Professions or University
of Delaware
must be reviewed by both parties prior to distribution.
General
This agreement may only be amended, modified, or
supplemented by an agreement in writing signed by the parties.
Length of Agreement
- This
Agreement will continue in effect from year-to-year and will be
automatically renewed annually unless terminated or amended.
- This
Agreement may be terminated on June 30 of any calendar year by either
institution via written notice one year in advance. The addresses to which written notice is

General

This agreement
may only be amended, modified, or supplemented by an agreement in writing
signed by the parties.
·
No Third Party Beneficiaries. None of the benefits or obligations of either
party under this Agreement shall run to or be enforceable by any student or
other third party.
·
Assignment.
Neither party shall assign, sell, or otherwise transfer this Agreement
without the prior written consent of the other.
Any such purported assignment, sale or transfer shall be void.
·
Any student enrolled at the date of termination
shall be permitted to complete the program provided the student meets all the
program requirements.
