IFST Permission has been received to have our students enrolled
in their class. See attached.
Rationale:
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
The above curricular revisions eliminates
two credits and gets us to the 120 credit level. The changes also create a better learning
sequence of classes for the students.
Specifically, IFST 201 is viewed to be a more appropriate course for
our majors.
Changing HESC 139 to HESC 145 is simply to avoid
confusion for our incoming freshman. Our
academic advisor said she is constantly getting questions about why they are
taking a course with a higher number before one with a lower number.
HESC 250 is being renumbered to HESC 301 as HESC 140
and HESC 145 are prerequisites for the course.
This will keep unqualified students out of the class as students must go
through the advisement office to be entered into 300 level courses.
We would like to change HESC 275 to HESC 345 as it is
being taught in the junior year and it will give us more control over who is
admitted into the class. We are also
going to add HESC 140 and HESC 242 as prerequisites.
HESC 330 is being changed to HESC 231 as the class
should be taken in their sophomore year and is more appropriately numbered as a
200 level class.
HESC 370 and HESC 380 are our Physical Education Methods
courses and they are senior level classes that are taught as part of the
Methods block the semester prior to student teaching. Therefore, we would like to renumber them to
HESC 415 and HESC 417.
HESC 143, HESC 252, and HESC 255 are all skills classes. The two new course offerings will allow a
more in-depth study of how to teach the content covered in these classes.
The information covered in HESC 276 is infused in our other
courses and is no longer considered necessary.
HESC 300 is considered to be unnecessary for our students.
The two new courses, HESC 241 and HESC 242, are going to allow
the students to have more hands-on experiences as well as provide them with the
opportunity to understand how to teach some of the critical aspects of physical
education. These classes will also
bridge the gap between the courses being taught in the freshman and sophomore
years.
The credits for student teaching have always been 5 cr. for
secondary and 4 cr. for elementary. As
each experience is 7 1/2 weeks it makes more sense to make each worth 5
cr. Then to keep the student teaching
experience to 12 credits one credit was eliminated from HESC 465. It was also felt that two credits for the
seminar class is more consistent with the course
content.

be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)
