Introduction to Global Health
The three required courses were based on
recommendations for developing public health programs that are provided through
the Curriculum Guide for Undergraduate
Public Health Education Version 3.0 by the Association for Prevention
Teaching and Research (APTR) and the Association of American Colleges and
Universities (AAC&U). This curriculum guide assisted in the development of
the minor’s three core courses and provided insight on the electives to offer.
The curriculum guide is designed to assist faculty with providing students with
the essential learning outcomes presented by the Association of American
Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in their Liberal Education and American’s
Promise (LEAP) initiative. Public
Health, Epidemiology, and Global Health are the primary constructs of
undergraduate public health programs.
In addition these courses
are based on criteria
established by the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) and the
Council on Education for Public Health (

(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
Understanding the issues and complexities of population health
and the public’s health is becoming more of a requirement in contemporary
society. According to the Association
for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) and the Association of American
Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), the ability to provide undergraduate
students from all disciplines exposure and appreciation of public health
concerns and issues has become important, and promoted as a need for a quality
education. By providing a minor, UD
students will have that opportunity. It
will also help expose students to this career path, and supplement some
students’ ability to pursue medical careers in a more learned fashion. The
minor also contributes to UD-TJU collaborations and enhances future
possibilities.
Regarding collaborations with TJU,
the Public Health minor was developed with input and guidance from the director
