Document, highlighting the changes made to the original policy document.
List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program
objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
None
Explain, when appropriate,
how this new/revised curriculum supports the 10 goals of undergraduate
education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/
Existing courses within the major/concentration already
meet requirements essential for the
integration of academic knowledge with clinical/laboratory experiences.
Identify other units affected
by the proposed changes:
(Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)
None
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
1) Add HESC180 Introduction to
Exercise Science. HESC180
was added to the major requirements for Exercise Science last year
simultaneously with the Medical Scholars concentration being proposed. Not
having included HESC180 among the major requirements was an oversight.
2) Add HESC309 Pre-Clinical Anatomy & Physiology I as a
required course. HESC309 was added to the major requirements for Exercise
Science last year simultaneously with the Medical Scholars concentration being
proposed. Not having included HESC309 among the major requirements was an oversight.
3) Eliminate BISC306 as a required course. Rationale: The
content of BISC306 General Physiology overlaps with the content of HESC430/431,
which is also required.
4) Add HESC420 Functional Human Anatomy as an option to
BISC408 Mammalian Histology as a required course. This course will establish a strong
foundation in anatomy that is essential for future first-year medical school
students. (HESC420 is currently 4
credits. A course revision is separately proposed to increase the number of
credits for the course to 5.)
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of the
credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
