will be admitted to the PhD in Nursing Science in cohorts of 6 students.

Students
are required to have completed a 3-credit undergraduate and at least 3-credit
graduate level statistics course prior to admission to the PhD in Nursing
Science Program.
The departments of education and psychology will be affected
by the new program. The PhD in Nursing
Science core courses include two relevant statistics

In addition to the core research courses taught by nursing
faculty, students will select a 3-credit research methodology course from
existing university programs that is specific to their research focus. Students may enroll in courses on campus

Finally, students will complete 12 credits of Cognates,
electives taken to build substantive knowledge in area of dissertation topic,
in disciplines relevant to their program of study and their research

be determined in conjunction with their program advisor. Permission from faculty in other departments
will be sought at that time.

The current nursing faculty and subsequent nursing shortage
has dictated the need for programs that prepare faculty for scholarly positions
within Schools of Nursing. Additionally,
the increased need for knowledge to provide evidence-based practice speaks to
the necessity of preparing research scholars to address the multifaceted health
care needs of society. Currently, there
are no schools of nursing in
This proposed PhD in Nursing Science program is a critical
component supporting Academic Priorities of the
Program Requirements:

The Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing Science requires 50
credits including 41 credits of graduate level coursework and up to 9 credits
of dissertation.
