List new courses required for
the new or revised curriculum. How do they support the overall program
objectives of the major/minor/concentrations)?
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
Explain, when appropriate,
how this new/revisedcurriculum supports the 10 goals
of undergraduate education: http://www.ugs.udel.edu/gened/
Courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and
experiences necessary to understand the role culture, sex/gender, environment,
and behaviors play in personal and community health (Goals 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9,
10).
Required courses (BHAN155 and NTDT200) provide students with health
content and an introduction to the complexities of health behaviors and
personal responsibility in working toward a high quality of life (Gaols 2, 4, 5, 6, 7,9). Health behavior theory elective courses will
examine health behavior theory and how it can be applied to various populations
and situations. Each course also
requires students to work independently and in groups to develop effective
program strategies to address health behaviors in specific populations. (Goals 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9). Other health electives address content
specific knowledge of particular interest of the individual students. The
capstone course options require students to apply the knowledge they have
gained in the other minor courses. Each
course will have a group and/or individual requirement addressing health behavior
change (Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10).
Identify
other units affected by the proposed changes:
(Attach permission from the affected units. If no other unit is affected, enter “None”)
Permission for the ANTH 367, HDFS 401, and SOCI 311 has been
given. Please see attached.
Describe the rationale for
the proposed program change(s):
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
The health and wellness
minor has been designed to provide students who have an interest in expanding
their knowledge of health and wellness issues.
The 18 credit minor will provide students with the opportunity to
complement their major course of study by expanding and applying health
knowledge and concepts to their chosen profession and personal life. Students in Health Behavior Sciences are not
eligible to take this minor as a course of study.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the current curriculum and include a side-by-side comparison of
the credit distribution before and after the proposed change.)
