The Health
Studies degree contributes to the following goals of undergraduate education
through the curriculum including the required practicum experience. Students
are required to gain skills in written communication and information technology
(Goal 1). Through the required practicum, students learn to solve problems
independently, and also learn to work collaboratively with others at sites like
hospitals, fitness centers and other work places where they work with other
professionals and staff members. (Goals 2 and 3).
Students gain exposure to ethics through the required ethics class, but
also through much of the entire program, as they are required to think and
reflect on the concepts of health and wellness as it affects them, their
community, and their world. (Goal 4). The knowledge
gained in the academic coursework allows students to understand the concepts of
health, wellness, and fitness as it pertains to their lives and the lives of
others outside the classroom. (Goal 7).
