Proposed Resolution
of the University of Delaware Faculty Senate, as recommended by the
Undergraduate Studies Committee (February __, 2012), regarding the use of an A+
grade in undergraduate classes:
WHEREAS, the
University of Delaware allows faculty to grade students in undergraduate
classes employing the plus/minus system; and
WHEREAS, the
plus/minus system of grading does not allow for the award of a grade of A+ to a
student, with the grade of A being the highest grade that can be awarded to a
student in an undergraduate course; and
WHEREAS, those
faculty who employ the plus/minus system of grading may wish to award a grade
of A+ to those students in an undergraduate class who perform exceptional work
in the course; be it therefore
RESOLVED, that the University of Delaware Faculty Senate recommends that faculty be permitted to award a grade of
A+ to students who perform exceptional work in their courses, with the A+ grade
entered on the recipient student’s transcript, but such grade of A+ counting
the same as a grade of A (i.e., 4.00) in the computation of the student’s Grade
Point Average (GPA).
