B.     Resolutions:

1.      Recommendation from the Coordinating Committee on Education (Avron Abraham, Chair) with the concurrence of the Executive Committee (Charles Boncelet, Chair) to change the name of the College of Health and Nursing Sciences to College of Health Sciences (attachment)

Whereas,                the “College of Health Sciences” is the most common title for groupings of related health programs within universities similar in stature to the University of Delaware, and

Whereas,                recruitment of professional faculty and educational leaders, other than nurses, is often hindered by the term Nursing in the college title, and current academic professionals, other than nurses, who are members of a “College of Health Sciences” frequently question our name, and

Whereas,                many University of Delaware faculty and professionals do not easily remember the name of the College and often refer to the merged College of Health and Nursing Sciences as the College of Nursing, be it therefore

Resolved,               that the Faculty Senate recommends that the title, College of Health and Nursing Sciences, be changed to College of Health Sciences

2.      Recommendation from the Coordinating Committee on Education (Avron Abraham, Chair) with the concurrence of the Executive Committee (Charles Boncelet, Chair) to change the Department of Nursing to the School of  Nursing (attachment)

Whereas,                nursing is a professional degree, and

Whereas,                across the Nation, the term “Department” is used most frequently by nursing programs with teaching and service missions.  The term “Department” does not indicate a tripartite mission that includes a focus on scholarship.  Since 1995, the mission of scholarship has increased significantly and will assist the future development of a doctoral program in nursing sciences, and

Whereas,                recruitment of nursing faculty and nursing leaders is hindered by the term  “Department.”  Current academic nurse leaders are most often members of “Schools of Nursing” or “Colleges of Nursing”.   With the extreme shortage of nursing faculty, the name of the institution should attract strong faculty, and

Whereas,                during a recent two-year national search for a chairperson, potential applicants indicated the level of “department” was not of sufficient interest and prestige and showed a lack of importance within the University system, and

Whereas,                institutions of like size and similar programs have the title “College” or “School”, and

Whereas,                no change in administrative or faculty lines is required in the title “School of Nursing”, be it therefore

Resolved,               that the Faculty Senate recommends that the Department of Nursing change its name to “School of Nursing” in the College of Health Sciences

3.      Recommendation from the Coordinating Committee on Education (Avron Abraham, Chair) with the concurrence of the Executive Committee (Charles Boncelet, Chair) for the reorganization of programs in the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy (attachment)

Whereas,                faculty in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy and the Department of Consumer Studies have voted to approve a plan to move the undergraduate major and minor in Leadership from the Department of Consumer Studies to the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy, and

Whereas,                faculty in the Department of Consumer Studies have voted to approve the change in the name of the department to the Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies, and

Whereas,                the proposal for this reorganization of programs in the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy is acceptable to the Dean of the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy and to the Provost, be it therefore

Resolved,               that the Faculty Senate recommends the proposed reorganization of programs in the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy, to be effective as of July 1, 2005.

4.      Recommendation from the Committee on Undergraduate Studies (Jeff Jordan, Chair) with the concurrence of the Coordinating Committee on Education (Avron Abraham, Chair) and the Executive Committee (Charles Boncelet, Chair) to establish a new Honors Bachelors of Science: Resource Economics (attachment 1(attachment 2)

Whereas,                the establishment of the Honors Bachelors of Science: Resource Economics degree would benefit student in the Department of Food and Resource Economics and

Whereas,                the establishment of this degree has been endorsed by the Honors Program and

Whereas,                establishment of such a degree does not require the addition of any new courses or library resources, be it therefore

Resolved,               that the Faculty Senate recommends that this degree be established in the Department of Food and Resource Economics

5.      Recommendation from the Committee on Undergraduate Studies (Jeff Jordan, Chair) with the concurrence of the Coordinating Committee on Education (Avron Abraham, Chair) and the Executive Committee (Charles Boncelet, Chair) to establish a new Honors Bachelors of Science: Food and Agribusiness Management (attachment 1)  (attachment 2)

Whereas,                the establishment of the Honors Bachelors of Science in Food and Agribusiness Management degree would benefit students in the Department of Food and Resource Economics and

Whereas,                the establishment of this degree has been endorsed by the Honors Program and

Whereas,                establishment of such a major does not require the addition of any new courses or library resources, be it therefore

Resolved,               that the Faculty Senate recommends that this degree be established in the Department of Food and Resource Economics

6.      Recommendation from the Executive Committee (Charles Boncelet, Chair) for the creation of an award called the "Faculty Senate Exemplary Service Award"

Whereas,                the success of the University of Delaware Faculty Senate greatly depends on service commitments from the faculty, and

Whereas,                certain faculty members serving on committees provide an extensive amount of high quality dedicated service to the Faculty Senate while giving of themselves personally in an inordinate manner, and

Whereas,                there is no specific faculty award, which serves the purpose of recognizing exemplary service directly to the Faculty Senate, be it therefore

Resolved,               that an award called the "Faculty Senate Exemplary Service Award" be established to recognize those faculty members who have contributed an extraordinary amount of service for a period of at least 3
years to the Faculty Senate, and be it further

Resolved,               that the Faculty Senate Executive Committee administer the award
